Why is the second vaccination after 3 weeks so important?

A second vaccination 3 weeks after the first one is necessary for your immune system to develop the highest degree of protection against SARS-CoV-2 possible.

1st vaccination

After the first vaccination, your immune system begins to build up defenses against SARS-CoV-2 infection. Please schedule your second vaccination appointment in combination with the first appointment to make sure that the second vaccination can take place 3 weeks later. Your doctor can provide you with more information.

2nd vaccination

Vaccination with COMIRNATY® is expected to provide the best possible protection starting 7 days after the second dose. This time frame is because the immunological processes in your body need time to build up an immune response. That is why you need to keep following the coronavirus safety rules even after each vaccination.

Note: Different vaccines may not be combined.

The same vaccine from the same manufacturer should be given for each of the two vaccination doses. This is because there currently not enough data on the safety and effectiveness of using different vaccines for the first and second COVID-19 vaccinations.
